Graduate Research Assistant: Exercise Psychology Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Edward McAuley. Primary responsibilities include data collection and analysis; maximal graded exercise testing (GXT); study coordination and training personnel. Additional responsibilities include participant recruitment, screening, and scheduling; exercise group leadership and functional fitness testing. Information regarding specific research projects is listed below.

Activity, Gait, and Balance II (FlexToba): A 12 month federally funded two arm randomized controlled home based DVD exercise trial examining the relationship between flexibility, toning, and balance physical activities with physical functioning and psychosocial variables in community dwelling older adults in east central Illinois. Primary responsibilities include assisting in intervention planning and design and production of the exercise DVD, data collection, recruitment, screening, supervision and administration of functional fitness testing, and providing tailored exercise telephone counseling support to participants.

Exercise After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (BEAT II): A 12 month federally funded randomized controlled exercise and counseling trial examining the effected of a tapered intervention on increasing physical activity in breast cancer survivors as well the effect of physical activity on psychosocial and functional variables. Primary responsibilities include assisting in intervention planning, screening, scheduling, recruitment, supervising exercise and counseling sessions, data collection, providing telephone support, supervising submaximal and strength exercise testing sessions.

Healthy Active Lifestyle Trial (HALT): A 12 month federally funded two arm randomized controlled exercise trial examining the relationship between physical activity, immunilogical markers and cognitive functioning and psychosocial variables in community dwelling older adults. Primary responsibilities include serving as an exercise leader for the walking group, supervising other exercise sessions, data collection, recruitment, screening, scheduling, supervising maximal graded exercise testing, and functional fitness testing.

Eye Movement Nuerocoupling (ENC): A cross sectional study examining the relationship of fitness to cognitive functioning and eye movement in a sample of older adults. Responsibilities include supervising maximal graded exercise testing and data collection.

Multidimensional Outcome Expectation for Exercise Scale (MOEES) Design (Independent Study): A prospective 18 month mail-based project to develop and validate a comprehensive outcome expectations for exercise scale as well as examine the relationship between outcome expectations, psychosocial factors, and physical activity over time. Responsibilities include serving as the co-project coordinator, participant recruitment, participant database management, and data collection and analysis.

Physical Activity and Breast Cancer Survivors (Independent Study): A review of the external validity of the existing literature on physical activity and in breast cancer survivors utilizing the RE-AIM (Reach, Efficacy/Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) framework.
2008-2009, University of Illinois

Teaching Assistant:Physical Activity and Health. Responsibilities included designing the course lectures, assignments, and examinations; grading assignments and examinations; tutoring students; administering examinations; and lecturing for a class of 100-150 students majoring in kinesiology or community health.
2006-2007, University of Illinois

Teaching Assistant:Introduction to Sport and Exercise Psychology. Responsibilities include grading papers and examinations, tutoring students, administering exams, and some lecturing.

Undergraduate Research Assistant: Exercise Psychology Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Edward McAuley. Primary responsibilities included data collection and entry, graded exercise testing, functional fitness testing, BodPod test administration, and participant interviews. Deatials relevant to specific projects listed below.
Activity, Gait, and Efficacy(AGE): Federally funded longitudinal study examining the relationship between physical activity, physical functioning, quality of life, body composition, and psychosocial funcitoning in older Arfrican American and Caucasian women. Primary responsibilites included conducting participant interviews, performing funcitonal fitness testing, and data entry.

Freshman Study: Prospective three month pilot project designed to determine the psychosocial determinants of physical activity and nutrition behaviors in college freshman. Responsibilites included body composition assessments using the BodPod (air-displacement plethysmography), met with participants individually to explain and distribute study materials, and performed data collection.

Physical Activity in Multiple Sclerosis (PhAIM-S): Randomized controlled trial examining the effects of self-efficacy on adherence to an exercise intervention in patients with MS. Performed functional fitness testing.

Physical Activity and Quality of Life During Menopause (LifePAQ): Randomized controlled exercise trial examining the relationship between physical activity, menopausal symptoms, and quality of life in menopausal women. Performed maximal graded exercise testing.

2005, University of Illinois

Undergraduate Research Assistant: Lifetime Fitness Program under the direction of Dr. Ellen Evans. Primary responsibilities included leading older adults in group exercise classes for strength, balance, and flexibility as well as maintaining the participant database and files.
